Instrument lessons for schools

Bring out the music in your pupils.

Greenwich Music School provides specialist instrumental teaching during the school day. Our teachers get to know each pupil, help them learn music they enjoy and develop their skills.

Run by us, fitted around your school. We organise the teaching, prepare the pupil timetable and take care of parent bookings, payments and questions.

No cost to your school. Parents pay us directly.

The teaching

Teachers who get to know your pupils

Our longest-serving teachers have been with Greenwich Music School for over ten years. Pupils can build a lasting relationship with a teacher who knows them and thinks beyond the next lesson or exam.

Our teachers are instrument specialists who also teach our most advanced students, including those working towards diplomas. Each is part of our wider teaching team, with training and mentoring from our Principal, Bethan Scolding.

Lessons help pupils work out how to practise, recognise what needs attention and learn new music for themselves. We review each pupil’s progress at the end of the autumn, spring and summer terms, and your school can request a summary.

Introducing lessons

Pupils meet the instruments first

We can arrange demonstration assemblies so pupils hear the instruments and meet the teachers before families register their interest.

“We had a couple of focussed meetings online to discuss our needs and it was clear that GMS wanted to ensure that everything would be as smooth as possible for us.”
“The demo assemblies were a great opportunity for the children to not only meet the tutors, but also hear high quality music performances. This has translated into strong take up of lessons - including several children with additional and SEND needs.”
Ben Griffiths, Music Lead at Bannockburn Primary School

Performing

Opportunities to perform

Pupils learning with us at school can take part in Greenwich Music School student concerts. When a pupil has a piece ready, their teacher can also send your school a performance slip, making it easier to give them a turn in assembly or at a school event.

Teaching continuity

If a teacher is absent, we arrange catch-up lessons. For longer absences, or if a teacher leaves, we arrange a replacement and a careful handover. We tell parents directly about any cancellation.

Help more pupils take part

Families can hire an instrument through our local partner instead of buying one, collected from our venues. Pupils can also apply for our bursaries and scholarships.
